Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has been forced to withdraw 26,000 cars worldwide to exchange an electronic program that cause the engine off, the company announced Wednesday, quoted by AFP.

"It's an electronic way, in certain circumstances, not working properly. Engine will not start or stop after 100 meters", said a Volvo spokeswoman Maria Bohlin.

"All customers affected will receive a letter will be invited to go to a Volvo dealer to change the electronic program," added Bohlin.

The cars are removed from the models S80, V70, XC60, XC70 and S80L. Vehicles are equipped with turbo six-cylinder (T6).

Of the targeted 26,000 cars, 12,000 are in the United States, where this type of engine is widespread, said Bohlin.
