Two Prius at the same time on the market
To cope with competition, Toyota plans to continue marketing the current Prius after the release of the new model. This would allow it to be two hybrid models in its range, two different rates.
When leaving their replacements, all models of automobiles are not systematically removed from sale. For example, it is still possible to buy a Citroën Xsara Picasso or a Renault Clio Campus even though the C4 Picasso and the Clio III make inroads in the market. According to information revealed by the British site Auto Express, Toyota is on the point of making in the same way with its Prius.
When the new Prius, with Ni-MH battery rechargeable electricity, released in 2010, the current model and will see its tariff repositioned. Currently set at 25 550 euros for the entry level, it could fall to around 20 000.
The goal of Toyota is obviously not to be cutting dealers on the market of the hybrids by Honda and its compact Insight, which will be sold with the neighbourhoods of 15.000 euros. The Prius will also not compete too much for the full hybrid desired by the manufacturer Suzuki (Insight, Coupe CR-Z, Jazz and new FCX Clarity).
The new Prius, whose base price should be close to 30 000 euros, will have a new 1.8L petrol engine and an electric motor of 75 horses. Its CO2 emissions are expected to fall below 100 g / km, against 104 for the current model.
