TM4 will supply electric vehicles engines for Tata Motors

Tata Motors and Miljø TM4 to combine their program of demonstration of electric vehicles.

TM4 has been selected by Norway’s Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, as a supplier of electric motors, inverters and electronic control of vehicle, for the hundreds of vehicles with which Miljø will demonstrate an all-electric version of the new Indica Vista in Norway during 2009-2010.

The news was announced on January 15, in the presence of the Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife, Claude Béchard, the chairman and CEO of Hydro-Quebec, Mr. Thierry Vandal, at the Salon in Detroit (North American International Auto Show)

This is the latest generation of engines produced by TM4 for the automotive industry, Tata Motors’ UK subsidiary, Tata Motors European Technical Centre plc, has acquired a 50.3% holding, at an acquisition cost of Kroner 12 million (Rs.9.40 crores), in Miljø Grenland/Innovasjon, Norway, which specialises in the development of innovative solutions for electric vehicles. The balance of shares will be retained by the existing shareholders who will continue to be associated with the venture.

This engine is the effort of ten years of R & D. Combining the technology developed by TM4, it offers the best power-weight in its class and an efficiency far greater than the engines of conventional gasoline vehicles.

TM4, a subsidiary of Hydro-Quebec, develops and markets global markets of the electric motor and the power of decentralized systems with electrodynamic conversion and power control for high performance.

Tata Motors Limited is the largest automobile company in India. Its revenues reached U.S. $9 billion in 2008. The company is a leader in the field of transport. Tata Motors is also the fourth manufacturer of trucks and the second bus manufacturer in the world.

Miljø Innovasjon, whose company Tata Motors has control through its subsidiary Tata Motors European Technical Center, produced versions of electric vehicles manufactured and sold by Tata Motors.
