GM and SAIC Set for New Engines and Transmissions

General Motors and SAIC have agreed to jointly develop a new family of gasoline engines and dual clutch transmissions.

The engines have displacements between 1 and 1.5 liters, will be equipped with direct injection and turbocharging and will be developed to optimize fuel consumption and emissions.

The vehicles that receive these engines have front-wheel drive and can count on a new dual-clutch transmission to dry, which will lower fuel consumption by 10% compared to traditional automatic.

GM and SAIC will use the new technologies worldwide and the recent launch of the new joint brand Baojun could provide an opportunity for the debut of a small car, first to adopt new generation engine and gearbox.
