Puerto Rico Traffic Safety Commission

The Commission for Traffic Safety (CST) was established under Law Number 33 of 25 May 1972, as amended.

Decades ago, the fatalities on our roads exceeded the amount of 600 lives lost each year. In recent years we have seen a dramatic decline, dropping to about 400 deaths. This substantial reduction is the result of effective integration of our educational campaigns and the close collaboration of the State Police, Municipal Police, Justice Department, Emergency Medical, Fire Department, among other government agencies.

Prevent and reduce fatalities, injuries and property damage caused by traffic crashes.

The CST is responsible for planning, coordination, management and dissemination of prevention program traffic crashes statewide. For years we have increased our educational efforts and public information to our children, adolescents and young adults. TEA-21 "Highway Safety Act for the 21st Century". In turn, the TSA handles, administers federal funds and benefits under Public Law No. 89-564 of Congress 1966, currently TEA-21 "Highway Safety Act for the 21st Century".
