Discount auto parts store

Frustrations on the job - Negotiations...:
When was the last time you asked for a discount at the doctor's office? Ever take a steak into a restaurant and ask them if they will cook yours instead of theirs? Would you ask the carpenter to use half the nails to cut down on costs? Why would you ask your auto technician to put on your parts or only put 1 spark plug wire on instead of a set?
Insults and the lack of reset
Today's automotive technicians are a rare breed. We take great pride in what we do. We are permanently in school, be it on the job or in a class, just to keep abreast of the ever-changing technology. As a member of a world -wide network of over 34,000 technicians, the number one complaint we seem to have is the lack of respect from customers and the communities we serve. We don't trim our fingernails with wire cutters, nor dig yesterday's lunch out of our teeth with a screwdriver. We take pride in our appearance and ourselves. We are still paying a price that was bestowed upon us by mechanics of many years gone by - no respect.
Why can't I bring my own parts?
When you have your vehicle serviced, a portion of the bill is the parts used to repair the vehicle. The parts costs may seem inflated compared to what you can get at the local XYZ discount auto parts store. A shop HAS to make a certain percentage of profit on the parts to stay in business. If a shop sells at discount rates, it may not be able to keep the doors open for the next time you need service. A shop also needs to guarantee the parts and labor for a period of time, and cannot do that if discount / customer furnished parts are used. Not all parts are created equal, and the more you want to cut costs, the more time you might be sitting on the side of the road, watching the daily commute pass you by.
